Are YOU Prepared For All Eventualities?????

Posted by Christine Burke on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, In : Background Checks

We all love this saying but it sometimes seems hard to implement when we are dealing with someone we love, or parting with money.

We (my family and I) are coming out of the most recent Hurricane Irma and it can be a very frustrating time. I remember going through Hurricane Andrew and the waiting seemed to be unbearable, along with all of the clean up after. Now, we are VERY thankful that the hurricane treated South Florida better than expected.

And, like with background checks, gut feelings, d...

Marketing Your Private Investigator or Process Server Business

Posted by Christine Burke on Thursday, February 16, 2017, In : Private Investigator and Process Server Marketing

These are the stats from one of my sales channels for January 2017. You can see (hopefully) that 20% of total sales came from a mobile device and new buyers make up 93% of total shoppers.

What does this mean for you? If you do not have a website or your website is not mobile optimized, you might be missing out on 20% of your customers. Too, did you know that Google has been rumored to down rank sites that are not mobile optimized?

And, how would you like to get 93% more new clients each month? ...

Posted by Christine Burke on Wednesday, September 30, 2015, In : child custody investigations

Are you having child custody concerns? Do you want to feel more confident when your child is with the ex, at school, or other function?

I was recently brainstorming with a client during a custody investigation. We were finding that the other custodial parent was not adhering to the Judgment and Agreement.

Usually we recommend a locator program on a cell phone but this was proving difficult due to the child's age. Through research, my client was able to locate this neat Care F GPS and Emergency ...

Most Important Thing In A Divorce

Posted by Christine Burke on Thursday, September 10, 2015, In : Family Law and Divorce Cases

I was recently talking with one of my family law attorneys about divorce cases. We were discussing the most helpful things to prevail in a divorce case as far as "What do you want to know?" and the answer was MONEY.

Who has the money, who had the money, is it being hidden and how can we find it. That's where a good private investigator comes in.

We have many ways of finding money, for divorce, custody and alimony as well as asset location and finding deep pockets for litigation.

If you are look...

What's the Cost? Pay now or pay later.

Posted by Christine Burke on Sunday, August 16, 2015, In : private investigation

As I'm sure with many professions, I get asked the question, "What does it cost to do a background check?" or "How much do you charge for this?"

A recent posting in our investigator forum was talking about a new service whereby investigators would work at a set rate, which is at least 2/3rd's lower than my rate. And, from the comments on the post, I gather it was well below what those investigators were charging too.

If you were going in to have a serious surgery or procedure done, let's say b...

Moving Forward - Debtor Locates

One of the frequent calls I get is for assistance in locating people and debtors. As an investigator, we have access to a wealth of databases, including driver's license and registration information.

I just received this information regarding the most popular moving months from TransUnion:

They advise that from their analysis, there is a "seasonality" for moving which extends from July through December with August scoring the highest for moves. This may coincide with the end of summer and start...

How Do You Know? Trust Your Gut!

Posted by Christine Burke on Saturday, June 6, 2015, In : private investigation

Sometimes when I review a case. or talk to a person, an idea or determination comes to mind. I just know what to do, or what is going on. Clients, friends and family will ask me, "How do you know?" and my answer most of the time is, "I just do" and I can't pinpoint why.

I am truly a believer in "Gut Feelings" as those gut feelings kept me alive on the street for many years. It still saves me today in both my work and my personal life.

A lot of times though, because you can't elaborate on the w...

What Happens If It Isn't Served In Time?

Posted by Christine Burke on Thursday, May 28, 2015, In : Process Serving

Well, it could be a BIT more than a parking ticket.....you could lose important evidence in your case, or if worse comes to worst, have your case dismissed!

Just yesterday, I had conversations with an attorney and one a business owner. Both were complaining about other process serving firms who were late with serving documents and delivering critical case documents. It's unfortunate that I hear this foo often lately....well, not unfortunate for me because I now have two NEW clients.

What Is Due Diligence?

Posted by Christine Burke on Thursday, May 28, 2015, In : Background Checks

I was talking recently with a client and we were discussing due diligence. In this case, the client had to sue a customer to recover money owed to the client. Of course, future preventative measures came up, which led us to the subject of due diligence.

Merriam-Webster has two definitions for due diligence, ":  the care that a reasonable person exercises to avoid harm to other persons or their property, :  research and analysis of a company or organization done in preparation for a business tr...

Use of Force Investigations

Recently we have seen incidents of complaints against the police for improper use of force and negligence in death investigations. These cases are instigating public demonstrations and investigations into officer behavior and departmental policies.

Aside from making the national news, use of force should be examined in each case when someone has been arrested and may or may not have been charged with an assault on an officer. Many departments have implemented and utilize a Use of Force policy....

What Was Your Last Meal Like? Maybe They Need A Mystery Shopping Investigation!

Do you have a favorite restaurant here in town? You know the place, where it's usually great and then one day you get awful service? Or maybe it's a change of management?

I know just the thing! Yesterday I had one of the worst meal experiences in a local Tempe restaurant which is part of a small local chain. I love going to this restaurant, just not the Tempe location.

Is My Neighborhood Safe? Checking The Calls For Service Report

Posted by Christine Burke on Wednesday, February 4, 2015, In : Background Checks

A few months ago a client was talking about moving and wanted my input on "safe areas of town". I advised him to visit the neighborhoods he was interested in at various days and times so he would get a feel of the neighborhood - as in the daytime many folks are at work - and kids are at school - all looks peaceful and quiet. I also recommended that he check any particular address, for a home he was seriously interested in buying, with the local police department.

Yesterday, I heard an ad on th...

How Do You Know When Someone Is Lying?

Obviously it easy to tell that someone is lying when you already know the truth or the answers to various questions. When you are not sure of the answers, and maybe are not sure what questions to ask, you have to rely on your evaluation of the answers.

As a private investigator we are usually asking questions and seeking answers. Most times we are just documenting information but frequently we are asked to attempt to determine if someone is lying or if they are credible.

Posted by Christine Burke on Monday, January 19, 2015, In : Process Serving
I recently took a call from a potential customer. They were looking for a process server. They were in Apache Junction AZ and wanted IMMEDIATE service of process for a divorce in Scottsdale AZ. They asked the price, which I quoted at our standard rate, providing three attempts.

The customer appeared to be taken aback, asking "Only three? The other company offered five!" My response to that was that any good process server should make the service on the first attempt, negating the need for the ...
