Are YOU Prepared For All Eventualities?????

Posted by Christine Burke on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, In : Background Checks

We all love this saying but it sometimes seems hard to implement when we are dealing with someone we love, or parting with money.

We (my family and I) are coming out of the most recent Hurricane Irma and it can be a very frustrating time. I remember going through Hurricane Andrew and the waiting seemed to be unbearable, along with all of the clean up after. Now, we are VERY thankful that the hurricane treated South Florida better than expected.

And, like with background checks, gut feelings, d...

Don't Take Everything At Face Value

Posted by Christine Burke on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, In : Background Checks

Wow, I can't believe it's been since June that I have posted here....I have been busy on our FaceBook page, LinkedIn and on YouTube so if you haven't been there yet, you're missing out.

Okay, back to the task at hand.....I get calls every day with situations where people thought that people, or situations, were different than they turned out to be. It sucks, frankly, and I do my best to get answers and help pick up the pieces.

Another call today, from a landlord that needed assistance with a ju...

The Problem With Problem Employees

Posted by Christine Burke on Sunday, May 15, 2016, In : Background Checks

Do you sometimes feel that your employees are like the spit backs in the box of chocolates? Is it hard to find qualified help, or, do you think you've found the right one or ones, only to find out they have taken advantage of you, tarnished your image with your clients or worse yet, stolen from you?

I recently met with Bob Wilson of Bob Wilson Solutions, based in Gilbert Arizona. Bob works with businesses to create very productive and low stress workplaces. He has many solutions in his arsenal...

Putting Integrity First!

Posted by Christine Burke on Thursday, November 19, 2015, In : Background Checks
How often does integrity come into play in your life? Rather, should I say lack of it? Me, I hear it almost every day and sometimes many times a day, depending on the situations my clients have experienced.

I met Realtor Melynda Wolter of Keller Williams Integrity First Real Estate several weeks ago and we have been discussing the issues of scams and crimes involving homes, real estate and rentals.

Many folks try to find their rentals or purchases on their own and they may run into scams on sit...

What Is Due Diligence?

Posted by Christine Burke on Thursday, May 28, 2015, In : Background Checks

I was talking recently with a client and we were discussing due diligence. In this case, the client had to sue a customer to recover money owed to the client. Of course, future preventative measures came up, which led us to the subject of due diligence.

Merriam-Webster has two definitions for due diligence, ":  the care that a reasonable person exercises to avoid harm to other persons or their property, :  research and analysis of a company or organization done in preparation for a business tr...

Is My Neighborhood Safe? Checking The Calls For Service Report

Posted by Christine Burke on Wednesday, February 4, 2015, In : Background Checks

A few months ago a client was talking about moving and wanted my input on "safe areas of town". I advised him to visit the neighborhoods he was interested in at various days and times so he would get a feel of the neighborhood - as in the daytime many folks are at work - and kids are at school - all looks peaceful and quiet. I also recommended that he check any particular address, for a home he was seriously interested in buying, with the local police department.

Yesterday, I heard an ad on th...

Clear As Mud - Some Legal Terms To Consider In A Background Check

Posted by Christine Burke on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, In : Background Checks

While recently conducting a background investigation, I was seeking information for a client to determine if a particular applicant had ever been served with a criminal summons, questioned, arrested, taken into custody, indicted, charged with, tried for, pleaded guilty to or been convicted or, or ever been the subject of an investigation concerning the violation of any law, statute, ordinance, rule, regulation, or canon and it references including all incidents, however trivial, whether guilt...

Is This Relationship Real?

Posted by Christine Burke on Monday, February 2, 2015, In : Background Checks

Recently I have seen advertisements for several Dr. Phil shows which discuss "phantom" or "scam" relationships. Usually it involves a lover that is out of the country and the "victim" is the party that is here in the states who truly believes that this relationship exists. During the course of the "courtship" the victim sends money and property over to the "beloved" while putting up with excuse after excuse as to why they are delayed in meeting. Typically these relationships arise through soc...

Should You Conduct A Background Check On A New Tenant?

Posted by Christine Burke on Monday, January 19, 2015, In : Background Checks

ABSOLUTELY!
I can't tell you how many times I get calls from customers for assistance in serving papers for eviction and forcible detainer actions or requests for help to locate assets or debtors. When I ask the question, "Did you conduct a background check prior to renting to them?", the answer is always a regretful NO!

I can understand how it is when you are trying to rent your property and need to find a tenant. Most folks are usually renting a property to make money and don't want to spend...
